Bar Brig is a cracking neighbourhood bar to be found near the bottom of Leith Walk on the corner of Jane Street, directly across from Rikki’s music shop.
It has a real mix of decor, with a huge, funky 70s-style chandelier as you walk in, plenty of exposed brick, red neon accent lighting and quirky posters on the walls. There’s cosy seating in booths constructed from reclaimed timbers around the sides, and pop-up tables at the bar made from whisky barrel lids.
They have a tiny cantina kitchen which serves up some great food at great prices. The menu has quite a Tex-Mex influence going on with all the classics available such as chipotle chicken or barbacoa beef tacos, oozing quesadillas, sizzling fajitas, massive nachos for sharing (or not), corn-dogs, jalapeno poppers and handmade beef and veggie burgers. There is also the option for you to be the chef at your table, cooking your own sirloin steaks on a piping hot lava stone. There are regular food promotions, with half-price deals every Monday and Tuesday.
There’s a good selection of draft and bottled beers with quite a few craft choices from local brewers and from much further afield. They have regular drinks promos, such as two for one cocktails, Monday – Wednesday and wine deals most nights.
It’s a popular place with a busy but relaxed vibe to it, with really welcoming staff. Entertainment wise, there’s Open Mic every Monday and they have regular free music nights. There is also a separate venue in the cellar – Brig Below – which is one of the best venues in town. It’s an intimate space which hosts live music gigs and comedy most nights.
