Casa Amiga is a charming family-run cafe and bakehouse on Leith Walk that has been producing top-quality traditional Portuguese pastries and savouries since 2014.
There are fresh soups daily, along with cod fritters, various flavours of croquettes, pastries stuffed with chorizo and cheeses and lots of other assorted sweet treats, including Nutella doughnuts.
However, the real stars are the pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tarts), which are some of the best you’ll find outside Lisbon. Beware, as one is never enough!
In addition they also have a small deli selection of Portuguese groceries and soft-drinks, along with cured meats, cheeses and wines.
With great coffee and free Wi-Fi, it’s a popular spot and fills up quickly, but there’s an additional seating area in the basement, or you can always take your pastel de nata away.
Top tip – if it’s a sunny day, grab a picnic to go and enjoy it in nearby Pilrig Park.
