Civerino’s Slice

A slice of (thug) life!

Amazingly, there is only one place in Edinburgh that properly does pizza by the slice. That place is Civerino’s Slice, located on Forrest Road across from the old medical school.

It’s a smallish space brightly decorated in shades of turquoise, lemon and pink, half of it taken up by the menacing black hulk of their wood-fired pizza oven, with seating around the sides and a bench for sharing in the middle.

There are over a dozen tasty varieties of their massive 20-inch pizzas to choose from, with five always available by the slice plus a few daily specials. The pizzas are proper New York style, with a satisfyingly crisp crunchy base. No drooping here!

There are a couple of side salads and topped fries available, but the pizza is the true star here. Very quaffable house wines by the glass or carafe and tins of Moretti and Peroni are available to wash it all down with

It’s a popular place and you may have to wait a few minutes for a seat, but it’s worth it. They do delivery as well and, if it’s a nice evening, then you can’t beat a takeaway pizza and a few cold beers in the Meadows.
