What an inspired idea! Six by Nico serves up a six course, themed, tasting menu that changes every six weeks. All for the pretty amazing price of £28 (you can add matching wines for £25!!!)
Located rights beside 99 Hanover Street, which is handy for pre/post dinner cocktails (or both) Six By Nico is a compact, buzzy place. The restaurant is split into two sections with an open kitchen and bar area to the back, although I think the bar is more for service than sitting at. There are a couple of large tv screens in the rear area that at first looked like they weren’t showing anything but actually are fed from a couple of cameras above the kitchen pass so you can see how each dish is artfully and beautifully plated up.
There is a new ’theme’ every 6 weeks and the only changes you can make are to swap out dishes from the vegetarian menu. So far they have had a menu inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and their twist on a traditional Fish & chip shop menu.
I managed to make it for the Chocolate factory menu which was fabulously quirky. With dishes including beetroot dip dab, cod black jack, a sweetie jar of duck parfait and dessert than obviously had to include a chunky handmade Wonka bar to share. No golden ticket unfortunately!
Having to drive ruled out the matching wines which was a shame as the selection looked great. There is however, a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages including a few hard to find flavours of San Pellegrino such as lemon and mint and blood orange.
The place was packed mid-week so booking is probably advisable. Their next theme is “Mexico” which will be running from 26th June – 5th August. This could definitely become a six weekly habit.
(Note they are generally closed on a Monday)
