The Shore Bar & Restaurant has been going for over 30 years and was one of Edinburgh’s original gastropubs.
It’s a buzzy, welcoming place. The wood panelled front bar with its chequered floor and marble-topped tables is reminiscent of a classic Parisian bistro, whereas the restaurant is a more intimate and romantic space (perfect for date night.)
They have a tranche of classics that are always on the menu, such as the very moreish ham hash cakes and hollondaise, that come as starter or a main, and a butler/flat-iron style cut of steak which is best served medium and comes with proper home-made chips and your choice of garlic butter or peppercorn sauce.
The Shore is part of the Local Fisher’s group of restaurants (which includes the original Fishers on the Shore which is right next door and Fisher’s In The City) so seafood and shellfish feature highly and there are always daily specials. Top tip: go for the panko breaded haddock and chips — you’ll be amazed how light these Japanese-style breadcrumbs make the fish — and don’t forget the mushy peas! If you go for lunch, there is a cracking set menu at £15/£18 for 2/3 courses.
There is a good selection of wines, with many available by the glass and there is a reasonable bottled beer and draft selection, with a very tasty pint of Guinness that goes especially well with the £1 oysters available before 6 pm Monday to Friday!
Food is available from noon to 10 pm, seven days a week.
They also host regular live music with jazz on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
